Student Homes Coalition was founded in 2022 to address rising rates of housing insecurity and homelessness in campus communities across California. Chapters work to support the Coalition's statewide advocacy and implement policy solutions at a local level. Student Homes at Saddleback focuses on increasing housing development for students around campus and improving awareness of tenant rights for Saddleback students.
Often, community colleges are left out of the discussion when it comes to the California housing crisis. Because Saddleback is a commuter campus without on-campus dorms, our peers are forced into one of the most expensive rental markets in the country. In fact, many students cannot live at home.
We believe that housing is a basic need and a human right that enables students to achieve their full potential. And we want to work hard to ensure housing is affordable and abudant for all students.
To understand the housing reality that Saddleback College students are facing, we need to look at the stats. This data comes from a 2025 Real College CA Survey.
